Best Auto Repair Shop Management Software for Independent Shops (2026)

We compared 22 repair shop management systems using current vendor pricing and product documentation. There is no honest universal winner. The right choice depends on shop size, user count, technician workflow, repair-data and parts needs, integrations, operating complexity, and what the shop is willing to pay for.

Four questions before you compare logos
01
Who needs access?
Owner, advisor, technicians, office, bookkeeper
02
What must stay connected?
RO, DVI, approval, labor, invoice, history
03
What depth do you need?
Parts, labor data, inventory, accounting, marketing
04
What is the real cost?
Plan, people, required products, setup, add-ons

A repair shop can buy management software for less than $50 per month or spend well over $1,000. Those prices are not describing the same product, the same user model, or the same level of operating complexity.

Modern systems can schedule customers, build repair orders, document inspections, collect approvals, order parts, track technician time, invoice, take payments, preserve vehicle history, manage inventory, connect accounting, run marketing, and report on the business. The useful question is not which vendor can list the most features. It is which system handles the work your shop actually does.

Editorial disclosure

BayNerve is developed by Gearbox Technologies LLC, which publishes this guide. We know BayNerve directly. We did not conduct hands-on operational testing of every competing product. Competitor pricing and feature descriptions are based on vendor-published pages reviewed on August 21, 2026. We include areas where other systems are broader or more mature than BayNerve.

Quick answer

What is the best auto repair shop management software in 2026?

There is no defensible single winner for every shop. ARI, MaxxTraxx, BayNerve, ManageAutoShop, AutoRepair Cloud, Torque360, RepairShopr, and Garage360 cover the lower end of published pricing, but their plans and operating models differ substantially. Tekmetric, AutoLeap, Shop Boss, Shopmonkey, and Shop-Ware offer broader modern cloud platforms. NAPA TRACS, ALLDATA, Mitchell 1, RO Writer, Identifix, and Protractor become more compelling when repair information, parts, inventory, accounting, or established infrastructure matter heavily. Shop4D targets shops willing to pay more for deeper performance-management tooling.

How we built this comparison

The auto shop management category is large, and a complete directory would be less useful than a carefully scoped buyer guide. We focused on systems a U.S. independent mechanical repair shop could reasonably encounter while researching day-to-day shop management software.

Current vendor pages control the facts. When a vendor no longer publishes a simple price, this guide says Quote rather than filling the gap with an old directory listing. When a starting price requires another product, annual billing, a long-term commitment, a one-user limit, or a higher tier for important features, the article says so next to the price.

We do not assign numerical scores or crown BayNerve number one. The publisher owns BayNerve, so a ranking like that would create more bias than useful information.

A five-user shop shows why pricing structure matters

A useful way to compare pricing is to hold one variable constant. For a five-user shop, BayNerve remains $49.99 because the shop subscription includes the team. Tekmetric, RO Writer Essentials, Shop Boss, Shop-Ware, and Shop4D also publish unlimited-user plans at their respective base prices. Shopmonkey Basic includes three users, so five users would be $279 per month before any other add-ons.

That does not mean the $49.99 products are better values than the $199 to $399 products. The more expensive systems may include parts, repair data, mobile apps, inventory, onboarding, reporting, or other capabilities that the smaller products do not.

What matters more than the headline price

1. Keep the repair order connected

Appointment, check-in, DVI, estimate, approval, technician work, invoice, payment, and vehicle history should not behave like unrelated records. Every handoff is a place where context can disappear.

2. Test the technician workflow, not only the front counter

Ask a technician to run the real mobile workflow. Can they see assigned work, document a finding, attach a photo, record time, flag a blocker, and confirm what the customer approved without leaving the job?

3. Repair data and parts can justify a larger system

Labor guides, OEM procedures, parts catalogs, purchasing, inventory, tire tools, accounting, and integrated payments can remove real work. If your shop uses them constantly, paying more for a broader platform can be rational.

4. Compare the plan you will actually use

The smallest number on a pricing page is often not the relevant one. AutoRepair Cloud’s $44.99 price requires an 18-month term. ALLDATA Shop Manager requires another ALLDATA subscription. Garage360 puts DVI and inventory above Basic. Shopmonkey Basic includes three users. AutoLeap puts several technician, inventory, accounting, and repair-data features on Pro.

5. Switching costs belong in the decision

Customer records, vehicle history, deferred work, inventory, accounting mappings, canned jobs, labor rates, and staff habits have value. Ask what can be migrated in, what can be exported later, what migration costs, and how much retraining the shop will need.

Platform-by-platform notes

The sections below use vendor-published information. “What to verify” is not an accusation or a review score. It is the question a buyer should resolve before signing.

ARI

$39.99/mo

Consider it when: Solo, mobile, and very small shops prioritizing low cost and broad mobile functionality.

What the vendor currently publishes: ARI Pro publishes invoicing, inspections, inventory, accounting, appointments, time tracking, payments, reporting, a client portal, and role controls at $39.99 monthly.

What to verify: ARI is a low-cost broad tool. A multi-bay shop should test technician workflow, parts depth, and how its credit-based features affect actual use.

Source: ARI official page.

BayNerve

$49.99/mo

Consider it when: Single-location independent mechanical shops, usually 2 to 15 people.

What the vendor currently publishes: BayNerve publishes one $49.99 monthly shop subscription covering work orders, assignments, DVI, estimates, line-item approvals and signatures, photos and voice notes, scheduling, check-in, invoices, payment records, vehicle/customer history, permissions, and reporting.

What to verify: BayNerve is newer and has a smaller public market footprint than established incumbents. Its current public site does not position licensed repair data, supplier-catalog ordering, deep marketing automation, or multi-location management as core strengths.

Source: BayNerve official page.

ManageAutoShop

$49.99/mo

Consider it when: Small independent shops wanting CRM, ROs, DVI, invoicing, SMS, QuickBooks, and simple pricing.

What the vendor currently publishes: ManageAutoShop publishes one $49.99 monthly plan with CRM, service orders, mechanic assignment, appointments, DVI, SMS notifications, invoicing, QuickBooks integration, revenue reporting, and browser-based mobile access.

What to verify: Its current feature page says inventory management is not included. Integrated payment processing and a dedicated mobile app are listed as coming soon.

Source: ManageAutoShop official page.

MaxxTraxx

From $49/mo

Consider it when: Shops comfortable with a traditional installed/hosted system and workstation-based pricing.

What the vendor currently publishes: Scott Systems currently publishes MaxxTraxx Express at $49 per month with a $99 registration fee, Service at $89 per month with a $299 registration fee, and Corporate at $119 per month with a $399 registration fee. Service and Corporate add $9 per workstation after the first.

What to verify: This pricing model is structurally different from cloud SaaS competitors. Compare the edition, setup fee, workstation count, hosting needs, and accounting requirements rather than treating $49 as a directly equivalent whole-shop cloud plan.

Source: MaxxTraxx official page.

AutoRepair Cloud

$59.99/mo

Consider it when: Budget-conscious shops wanting repair data, parts functions, and mobile apps.

What the vendor currently publishes: AutoRepair Cloud Mini is $59.99 month-to-month for one user. The vendor publishes $49.99 on a 12-month term and $44.99 on an 18-month term. Standard includes four users and adds scheduling, richer OEM information, accounting integrations, and TSBs.

What to verify: Do not compare the $44.99 figure to month-to-month competitors without stating the 18-month commitment. Mini also does not allow extra users.

Source: AutoRepair Cloud official page.

Torque360

$59.99/mo

Consider it when: Small and growing shops wanting broad functionality at a lower published annual-billing price.

What the vendor currently publishes: The current pricing page, updated August 18, 2026, lists Starter at $59.99 per month billed annually with five co-users, DVI, digital authorization, inventory, PartsTech/NexPart, AR, POs, reporting, and one-way texting. Turbo is $119.99 billed annually and adds deeper repair data, QuickBooks, two-way texting, clocks, and a technician app.

What to verify: The lowest displayed price requires annual billing. Data migration support may cost extra.

Source: Torque360 official page.

RepairShopr

$69.99/mo

Consider it when: Small repair businesses wanting CRM, POS, invoicing, payments, marketing, and QuickBooks.

What the vendor currently publishes: Starter is $69.99 monthly with one user and 75 tickets/invoices per month. It includes estimates, customer portal, payments, recurring invoicing, POS, time clock, QuickBooks, leads, and marketing.

What to verify: RepairShopr serves repair businesses beyond automotive. A shop with more than one user should compare the higher Repair Shop plan rather than Starter.

Source: RepairShopr official page.

Garage360

$79/mo

Consider it when: Small shops wanting modern cloud workflow, payments, parts lookup, and technician mobile access.

What the vendor currently publishes: Basic is $79 monthly and includes unlimited quotes/invoices, reporting, workflow, parts lookup, integrated payments, a technician mobile app, and Xero. Clever at $119 adds DVI, clocks, inventory, QuickBooks, custom workflow, and e-signatures.

What to verify: Several features many mechanical shops consider core are above the Basic tier.

Source: Garage360 official page.

ALLDATA Shop Manager

$99/mo + required subscription

Consider it when: Shops already invested in ALLDATA repair information.

What the vendor currently publishes: Shop Manager is $99 monthly and creates estimates, repair orders, and invoices with parts ordering and ALLDATA advisory data.

What to verify: The $99 price requires an ALLDATA Repair or Collision subscription. Shop Manager Pro is $259 monthly and also requires ALLDATA Inspections and Mobile, so the headline price is not the complete stack cost.

NAPA TRACS

From $109/mo

Consider it when: Parts-intensive shops that value NAPA, PartsTech, Mitchell labor data, and inventory.

What the vendor currently publishes: Silver starts at $109 monthly and includes unlimited estimates/invoices, electronic parts ordering, PartsTech, Mitchell 1 flat-rate labor guide, scheduling, inventory, VIN scanning, and reporting.

What to verify: Its value is strongest when a shop actively uses the parts, labor, inventory, and broader NAPA ecosystem.

Source: NAPA TRACS official page.

Tekmetric

$199/mo

Consider it when: Established independent shops wanting a mature cloud platform and broad integration ecosystem.

What the vendor currently publishes: Start is $199 month-to-month, or $179 per month billed annually, with unlimited users and ROs, DVI, inventory/vendor management, smart jobs, digital authorizations, and invoicing. Grow and Scale add labor data, clocks, two-way texting, technician board, and advanced reporting.

What to verify: The Start price is not the price of every Tekmetric capability. Multi-shop management and some integrations are add-ons.

Source: Tekmetric official page.

Consider it when: Independent shops that value an established automotive platform, supplier catalogs, and inventory.

What the vendor currently publishes: RO Writer Essentials starts at $199 per month for the first year and includes unlimited users, ROs, quotes/invoices, two-way texting, supplier-catalog parts ordering, inventory, tire quoting, appointments, onboarding, and support.

What to verify: The $199 figure is first-year pricing. DVI Suite, Smart eCat, RO Writer Connect, and Accounting Link are listed as paid add-ons, while the full RO Writer product is quote-based.

Source: RO Writer Essentials official page.

AutoLeap

$199/mo

Consider it when: Growing shops wanting an all-in-one platform plus structured implementation and migration.

What the vendor currently publishes: Essentials is $199 monthly or $179 per month billed annually. Its public pricing page includes a work board, unlimited ROs, e-signatures, parts ordering, and DVI at Essentials, with inventory, technician app, clocks, QuickBooks, labor guides, maintenance schedules, and procedures on Pro.

What to verify: AutoLeap publishes a one-time setup fee and does not offer a self-serve free trial. Shops needing Pro features should compare the $349 monthly tier, not only Essentials.

Source: AutoLeap official page.

Shop Boss

$199/mo

Consider it when: Independent shops wanting mature cloud workflow, parts, reporting, and technician tools.

What the vendor currently publishes: Gold is $199 monthly or $179 per month billed annually. All packages include unlimited users, unlimited ROs, unlimited two-way text/email, integrated parts ordering, reporting/workflows, vehicle history, and technician view. Gold adds appointments, inventory, payments, clocks, and parts/labor-guide integrations.

What to verify: Comprehensive DVI, full labor repair guides, employee analytics, real-time dashboarding, and tire ordering begin on Platinum. Published migration services cost $399 or $899 depending on data depth.

Shopmonkey

$239/mo

Consider it when: Shops wanting a polished mature platform, native mobile apps, payments, and a broad ecosystem.

What the vendor currently publishes: Basic is $239 monthly or $215 on the annual option. It includes three user licenses, two-way text/email, estimates/invoices, scheduling, DVI, e-signatures, integrated payments, parts lookup/ordering, and iOS/Android apps.

What to verify: Additional user licenses are $20 monthly. Unlimited DVI templates, custom workflow, purchase orders, time clocks, and inventory begin above Basic.

Shop-Ware

$279/mo

Consider it when: Higher-volume independent shops and multi-shop operators wanting operational depth.

What the vendor currently publishes: Startup is $279 monthly or $251 per month billed annually and includes unlimited users, DVX, inventory, parts ordering, payments, employee calendars/time tracking, reporting, and maintenance tools.

Shop4D

$399/mo

Consider it when: Performance-focused shops wanting deep KPI, parts, accounting, and workflow infrastructure.

What the vendor currently publishes: Apprentice is $399 monthly with unlimited users. It includes POS, DVI, calendar, pipeline, technician scheduler, inventory, CARFAX, AR/AP, texting, payments, parts sourcing/ordering, Mitchell labor times, timeclock, and performance dashboards.

What to verify: Shop4D is one of the highest-priced entry points in this guide. Its value case depends on actually using its deeper KPI and performance-management tools.

Source: Shop4D official page.

Consider it when: Shops prioritizing established repair information, estimating, parts catalogs, and reporting.

What the vendor currently publishes: Manager SE provides estimating/invoicing, WIP management, scheduling, inventory, technician time management, integrated parts catalogs, ProDemand integration, and more than 180 reports.

What to verify: Mitchell 1 does not publish a simple current Manager SE monthly price on the product page. Compare a current quote and the included data products rather than using old third-party pricing.

Source: Mitchell 1 Manager SE official page.

Consider it when: High-volume and multi-location shops wanting repair information and shop-management depth.

What the vendor currently publishes: The current ShopCentral page describes a cloud repair-order workflow for single and multi-shop operations with customer communication, inventory, purchases, labor times, billing, and analytics.

What to verify: An older Shop Manager pricing page still surfaces in search, but the current ShopCentral page routes buyers to a guided tour. This article therefore does not present legacy prices as current ShopCentral pricing.

What is outside the main comparison?

Fullbay and other heavy-duty-first systems deserve a separate truck and fleet comparison. Collision-management platforms should be evaluated around body-shop estimating, insurer, blueprinting, parts, and production workflows. Dealer-management systems solve a wider dealership problem than the independent mechanical-shop workflow evaluated here.

There are also many regional and smaller products. This guide favors a defensible set with current public documentation over a list so large that every product gets a shallow paragraph.

Where BayNerve fits in the market

BayNerve is not the most mature platform in this guide. It does not have Mitchell 1’s industry history, Tekmetric’s integration depth, Shopmonkey’s established native mobile ecosystem, NAPA TRACS’ parts and labor infrastructure, Shop-Ware’s broader high-volume tooling, or Shop4D’s performance-management stack.

Its position is narrower: a single-location independent mechanical shop should be able to run the core repair process without paying per person or buying a much larger operating platform than it needs.

BayNerve’s current public position

One connected job, one price for the shop.

BayNerve publishes a $49.99 monthly shop subscription for owners, advisors, technicians, administrators, and bookkeepers. Its public product pages center the work board, digital inspection, line-item approval and signature, technician work, invoices and payment records, deferred work, and vehicle history around the same work order.

The closest same-price comparison: BayNerve vs. ManageAutoShop

Both products currently publish $49.99 monthly pricing and target smaller independent repair shops. The useful distinction is product emphasis, not price.

AreaBayNerveManageAutoShop
Monthly price$49.99 per shop$49.99
Public workflow emphasisConnected work order, DVI, line-level approvals/signatures, technician board, deferred work, vehicle historyCRM, service orders, mechanic workload, appointments, invoicing, SMS, QuickBooks, revenue reporting
Bay documentationPhotos and voice notes on the job recordMechanic assignment/workload; verify note-capture workflow in demo
Current public limitationNewer product with less third-party market evidence and a narrower public integration ecosystemVendor states inventory is not included; payments and dedicated mobile app are coming soon

BayNerve is not the cheapest product in the category

ARI publishes a $39.99 monthly Pro plan, and MaxxTraxx Express publishes a $49 monthly edition before its registration fee. BayNerve should not claim that nothing costs less. Its cleaner value claim is that $49.99 currently covers the whole shop and the product described on BayNerve’s public site without per-user subscription pricing or a tier chart.

When BayNerve is a strong fit

Single location: the shop does not need organization-level multi-store administration.
Two to fifteen people: BayNerve publicly identifies this as its typical target shop.
Core workflow first: work orders, DVI, approvals, technician status, invoices, and service history matter more than a large add-on ecosystem.
Technician adoption matters: technicians need to claim jobs, inspect, add photos or voice notes, log labor, and flag parts delays from a phone or tablet.
Predictable user cost matters: adding a technician, advisor, administrator, or bookkeeper does not change the current $49.99 subscription.

When BayNerve is probably not the best fit

Look harder at other products in this guide when your shop depends on mature supplier-catalog ordering, licensed labor and repair-information databases, advanced stocked-inventory operations, a large integration marketplace, built-in marketing automation, complex accounting, or multi-location management. Those are areas where established platforms can justify a higher subscription.

13 questions to ask during every shop-software demo

A polished demo can hide the exact workflow problem that will frustrate the shop after launch. Ask the vendor to do these tasks live using one realistic repair order.

01
Check in a vehicle and record the concern, mileage, promise time, and assigned technician.
02
Run a DVI from the technician’s actual mobile workflow, including photos and notes.
03
Turn an inspection finding into an estimate without retyping the finding.
04
Approve one line, decline another, and show exactly where authorization and any signature are preserved.
05
Show how a technician knows what the customer approved before starting work.
06
Put a job on hold for a parts delay and show what the technician, advisor, and owner each see.
07
Clock a technician onto one job and then switch to another.
08
Order a real part from the supplier your shop uses, if supplier ordering is a requirement.
09
Show declined or deferred work when the same vehicle returns later.
10
Issue an invoice, record a partial payment, and show the remaining receivable.
11
Show what a technician can and cannot see compared with an owner, advisor, or bookkeeper.
12
Export customers, vehicles, work orders, invoices, and other core records. Ask what happens if you leave.
13
Price the exact number of people, locations, modules, data products, integrations, setup services, and hardware your shop needs.

Why this guide does not rank BayNerve number one

Gearbox Technologies owns BayNerve. Putting BayNerve at the top of a numbered ranking would create a clear conflict and weak evidence. A more useful guide defines the buyer’s requirements, checks current vendor facts, explains tradeoffs, and lets BayNerve earn a place in the shortlist where its actual position fits.

That is why this guide includes products below BayNerve’s price, ManageAutoShop at the same $49.99 price, and established systems whose parts, repair-data, integration, mobile, marketing, reporting, or multi-location capabilities are deeper today.

The bottom line

The best repair shop management software is the system that removes enough work to justify its cost, complexity, and switching burden.

A sophisticated operation that depends on native parts catalogs, licensed repair information, deep inventory, accounting, marketing, advanced analytics, or multi-location management should seriously evaluate the established systems built around those needs.

A lean single-location independent shop may reach a different answer. If the priority is keeping the work board, inspection, customer decision, technician activity, invoice, and vehicle history connected without paying several hundred dollars per month, BayNerve belongs in the comparison alongside the other focused lower-cost products.

That does not make BayNerve the universal winner. It gives the product a specific, defensible reason to exist.

FAQ

Auto repair shop software questions

What is the best auto repair shop management software?

There is no single best system for every shop. Small single-location shops may prioritize price, technician adoption, and a simple workflow. Larger or parts-intensive shops may get more value from repair information, supplier catalogs, inventory, accounting, marketing, analytics, or multi-location controls.

How much does auto repair shop software cost in 2026?

In the vendor pricing reviewed for this guide, published entry figures range from $39.99 per month to $399 per month before quote-only products, advanced tiers, companion subscriptions, setup, payment processing, hardware, or add-ons. The plans are not feature-equivalent.

Is BayNerve a Shopmonkey alternative?

For some independent mechanical shops, yes. Shopmonkey is a more mature and broader platform with native mobile apps, integrated payments, parts tools, more integrations, and a larger market footprint. BayNerve is a newer $49.99-per-shop option focused on the connected core repair workflow.

Is BayNerve a Tekmetric alternative?

For a lean single-location shop, BayNerve can belong in the same shortlist. Tekmetric has a much broader integration ecosystem, repair-data options, multi-shop tools, and market maturity. BayNerve costs less and is intentionally narrower.

How does BayNerve compare with ManageAutoShop?

Both currently publish $49.99 monthly pricing. BayNerve emphasizes one connected work order with DVI, line-item approvals/signatures, technician workflow, photos and voice notes, deferred work, and vehicle history. ManageAutoShop emphasizes CRM, mechanic workload, appointments, invoicing, SMS, QuickBooks, and revenue reporting. Its current feature page says inventory is not included and payments plus a dedicated mobile app are coming soon.

Does BayNerve charge per technician or user?

No. BayNerve’s current public pricing is $49.99 per month for the shop. Owners, service advisors, technicians, administrators, and read-only or bookkeeper roles are included.

Is BayNerve the cheapest repair shop software?

No. ARI currently publishes a $39.99 monthly Pro plan. MaxxTraxx Express publishes $49 per month before its registration fee. BayNerve’s value proposition is a $49.99 whole-shop subscription paired with its connected shop workflow, not a claim that nothing costs less.

Which repair shop software has unlimited users?

Current vendor pages explicitly advertise unlimited users on Tekmetric, Shop Boss, Shop-Ware, RO Writer Essentials, and Shop4D. Other platforms use different user, workstation, or plan structures, so verify the exact configuration.

What is a good shortlist for a 2 to 15 person independent repair shop?

Start with BayNerve, ManageAutoShop, Tekmetric, AutoLeap, Shop Boss, Shopmonkey, NAPA TRACS, Garage360, Torque360, and RO Writer. Then remove products based on the repair information, parts, inventory, accounting, marketing, mobile, and multi-location capabilities you actually require.

Which systems should I evaluate for parts ordering and repair information?

NAPA TRACS, Mitchell 1, ALLDATA, RO Writer, Identifix ShopCentral, Protractor, Shop Boss, Tekmetric, Shop-Ware, AutoLeap, Shopmonkey, and Torque360 all publish meaningful parts or repair-data capabilities. Verify the exact suppliers and licensed data you use.

Should I choose shop software based on price?

Price matters, but compare the configuration you will actually run. Include required users, companion products, implementation, migration, paid modules, hardware, payment costs, and the operational time the software removes.

What should I test during an auto repair software demo?

Run one realistic job from check-in through DVI, estimate, line-item authorization, technician work, parts delay, invoice, payment, deferred work, and the vehicle’s next visit. Also test role permissions, mobile use, data export, reporting, and the exact parts and accounting integrations your shop needs.

Why does Gearbox Technologies include BayNerve in a guide it publishes?

Gearbox Technologies develops BayNerve, so excluding it would make the guide less useful to people evaluating the product. The relationship is disclosed at the top, competitor facts are sourced to vendor pages, and the guide openly identifies categories where competing systems are stronger or more mature.
