About Gearbox Technologies

Gearbox Technologies LLC is an early-stage software company developing technology for vehicle owners and automotive service businesses. Our products include GRBX, a vehicle maintenance and records platform, and BayNerve, a shop management platform designed for independent automotive repair businesses.

We are building practical software around real problems in automotive maintenance, customer communication, shop operations, and business organization. Because Gearbox is a growing startup, interns receive exposure to product development, market research, sales strategy, and the process of bringing new software products to market.

Position Summary

Gearbox Technologies is seeking a currently enrolled college or university student for an education-focused Sales Development and Research Internship during the Fall 2026 semester.

This internship is designed to help a student learn how an early-stage technology company identifies potential customers, researches markets, develops sales messaging, evaluates prospective accounts, and builds a structured sales process.

The internship will emphasize research, professional development, mentorship, and practical sales education. It is not intended to function as a high-volume cold-calling position. The intern will not be assigned an individual sales quota, will not receive commission, and will not be responsible for independently closing business.

The intern will work approximately 10 hours per week through a flexible, remote schedule designed to accommodate classes, examinations, and other academic commitments.

Educational Objectives

During the internship, the student will learn how to:

  • Research industries, businesses, customer segments, and prospective accounts.
  • Develop an ideal customer profile based on market evidence.
  • Understand the stages of a business-to-business software sales process.
  • Evaluate whether a prospective customer is likely to benefit from a product.
  • Organize research and prospective-account information within a CRM.
  • Write clear, professional, and audience-specific sales messages.
  • Compare different approaches to sales development and customer acquisition.
  • Interpret basic sales and market-development metrics.
  • Communicate research findings and recommendations to company leadership.
  • Understand how sales, marketing, product development, and customer feedback work together within an early-stage technology company.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction and supervision of Gearbox Technologies leadership, the intern may:

  • Research independent automotive repair shops and related automotive businesses.
  • Identify relevant market segments, geographic areas, and customer characteristics.
  • Study prospective companies and document relevant business information.
  • Assist with developing and refining Gearbox Technologies’ ideal customer profiles.
  • Learn how prospective accounts are evaluated and organized within a sales process.
  • Practice using CRM and research tools in a supervised environment.
  • Draft sample emails, call outlines, discovery questions, and sales messaging for review.
  • Observe selected sales conversations, demonstrations, or customer-research interviews when appropriate.
  • Assist with small, supervised outreach exercises intended to develop professional communication skills.
  • Review publicly available information about competitors, market conditions, and automotive software.
  • Help analyze which messages, customer segments, or research methods appear most effective.
  • Participate in weekly mentorship, feedback, and professional-development discussions.
  • Complete a final research or sales-strategy project summarizing findings and recommendations from the semester.

Assignments may be adjusted based on the intern’s academic background, interests, and learning goals.

What the Intern Will Receive

  • An initial orientation covering Gearbox Technologies, its products, customers, and market.
  • Training on basic sales-development concepts and terminology.
  • Guidance on ethical prospect research and professional communication.
  • Direct feedback on research, written messaging, presentations, and assigned projects.
  • Regular access to a designated supervisor or mentor.
  • Weekly or regularly scheduled educational check-ins.
  • Opportunities to discuss careers in sales, business development, technology, startups, and the automotive software industry.
  • A final evaluation or internship-completion letter upon satisfactory completion of the program.

Gearbox Technologies will reasonably cooperate with university internship documentation or evaluation requirements. Academic credit may be available when approved and administered by the student’s college or university, but Gearbox Technologies cannot guarantee that a particular institution will award credit.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Be dependable, professional, and receptive to feedback.
  • Be able to manage approximately 10 hours per week alongside academic responsibilities.
  • Have access to a reliable computer and internet connection.
  • Be legally authorized to participate in an internship within the United States.

Gearbox Technologies does not provide employment or immigration visa sponsorship for this internship.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to applicants who:

  • Have an interest in technology, startups, automotive businesses, or software sales.
  • Have experience with research, presentations, student organizations, customer service, or campus leadership.
  • Are familiar with spreadsheets, CRM platforms, LinkedIn, or business-research tools.
  • Are interested in learning consultative sales rather than relying on scripted or high-pressure selling.
  • Can turn research into clear, practical recommendations.
  • Are pursuing a degree in business, marketing, sales, communications, entrepreneurship, analytics, information systems, automotive management, or a related field.

Previous professional sales experience is not required. Students from all majors are welcome.

Internship Terms

This is an unpaid, education-focused internship. There is no expectation or promise of wages, salary, commission, benefits, equity, or other compensation.

The internship is limited to the Fall 2026 academic term and is intended primarily to provide education, professional exposure, mentorship, and practical learning. Participation does not create an entitlement or guarantee of employment with Gearbox Technologies during or after the internship.

The internship is remote, flexible, and generally project-based. Scheduling will be coordinated around the intern’s academic calendar, including classes, examinations, and university breaks.
